Chandra Kundli

The same chart, read with the Moon's sign as the first house. Nothing moves — only the house numbering changes, and that is exactly the point.

What the Chandra Kundli Is

It is your birth chart, unchanged, read with the Moon's sign counted as the first house instead of the ascendant. No planet moves. Only the house numbering shifts.

The practice is ancient and standard. Most classical texts read results from both, and a reading that uses only one is working with half the picture.

Why Read From the Moon at All

The ascendant describes the body, the outward self, the circumstances a person is born into. The Moon describes the mind — how things are experienced, felt and received.

So a planet in the fourth from the ascendant says something about home and property as facts. The same planet in the seventh from the Moon says something about how relationships are experienced. Same planet, two different questions.

This is also why the Moon carries so much weight elsewhere in Vedic astrology: the Vimshottari Dasha runs from the Moon's nakshatra, Sade Sati is measured from the Moon, and rashi predictions in newspapers and on television are given by Moon sign rather than Sun sign.

When the Two Charts Agree

If your Moon sign and ascendant are the same — which happens in roughly one chart in twelve — the Chandra Kundli and the rashi chart are identical.

Nothing is missing in that case, and it is not a defect. It simply means there is no second view to compare, and the reading of the one chart carries correspondingly more weight.

How Practitioners Use It

The usual approach is to check whether a finding holds in both charts. A planet in a difficult house from the ascendant but a strong one from the Moon is read differently from one that is badly placed in both.

Agreement between the two is treated as confirmation. Disagreement is treated as nuance — the outward circumstance and the inward experience differing, which is a real and recognisable thing in people's lives.

What This Does Not Replace

The Chandra Kundli is a way of viewing the same chart, not a separate chart with its own predictions. It has no aspects or dashas of its own; those come from the rashi chart and the nakshatra.

And a house count on its own is not a reading. Where a planet sits, how strong it is, what it rules and what it aspects all matter more than the bare house number in either chart.
