Plants & Aquarium
The two most-sold Vastu remedies, and the two most often placed and then forgotten about.
What and Where
Where Each One Belongs
Small indoor plants suit almost anywhere, with the north and east traditionally favoured.
Large or heavy plants belong in the southern and western half. Heavy planters in the north-east work against a zone meant to stay light.
Tulsi is placed in the north, north-east or east, where it gets morning light.
Aquariums and water features go in the north or north-east, the water-associated zones, and are traditionally kept out of the bedroom and kitchen.
Thorny plants and cacti are traditionally kept out of living areas altogether. A balcony or outdoor spot is the usual compromise.
A Note on Lucky Bamboo
It is worth saying plainly: lucky bamboo is a Chinese practice, not a Vastu one. It has been widely adopted in India, it does no harm, and it is not from this tradition.
The same applies to several popular "Vastu remedies" sold in India today. Being clear about where something comes from is not a criticism of it, and a practitioner who cannot tell you the source of a remedy is worth questioning.
Condition Matters More Than Direction
This is the point of the whole page, and the check above scores it accordingly.
A dying plant works directly against the purpose it was placed for. Two thriving plants do more than eight struggling ones, and removing what is not working is a legitimate correction rather than a failure.
An unmaintained aquarium is worse than no aquarium — clouded water, a struggling filter, and fish that are not well is the opposite of what it was placed there to represent.
Before Buying an Aquarium as a Remedy
An aquarium is a genuine commitment: water changes, filtration, feeding, monitoring, and living creatures that depend on it. It is a hobby that people take up because they want it.
Taking one on purely as a Vastu remedy, without wanting the aquarium itself, tends to end in a neglected tank — which helps nothing and is unkind to the fish. If you would not want it otherwise, do not buy it for this.
Plants are a far lower-commitment option and are equally supported by the tradition.
What This Is Worth Overall
Plants and water features are minor corrections. They are pleasant, cheap, and they make a home feel better cared for — which is not nothing.
What they are not is a fix for a structural finding. Placing a plant in the north-east does not resolve a bathroom in the north-east. Anyone selling greenery or a water feature as a solution to a serious layout problem is overselling it, and the whole home summary is the better place to see what actually needs attention.
Want This Checked Properly?
These tools cover the findings that account for most of what a real assessment turns up, and they are free. What they cannot do is take a compass reading at the centre of your property, see your actual layout, or tell you which two or three corrections matter most for your home rather than in general.
