What This Score Actually Measures

The twelve questions above are not a random selection. They cover the findings that come up most consistently in real assessments across Indian homes, weighted by how much difference each one makes in practice.

Three of them carry the heaviest weight — whether the north-east is clear, whether the south-west carries weight, and whether the entrance is clean and unobstructed. Between them these account for a large share of what an assessment of an ordinary flat turns up, and all three are free to correct.

The rest cover the kitchen zone, master bedroom placement, sleeping direction, a north-east toilet, unattended leaks, the centre of the home, balconies, mirrors facing the bed, and general clutter.

Why the List Is Ordered

An unordered list of findings is the most common failure in Vastu advice, and it produces nothing. A household handed twelve corrections either does none of them or does them all in one exhausting weekend and learns nothing about which mattered.

The list above is ordered by weight, heaviest first. The practical instruction is to take the top two or three, do those, live with the change for a few weeks, and come back to the rest later. Three corrections done properly beat twelve attempted at once, every time.

A Middling Score Is Normal

If your score came out in the middle, that is the ordinary result and it is worth saying so plainly, because scores are easy to read as verdicts.

Every property has findings. Builders plan around plumbing stacks, structural loads, staircases and saleable area — not around directions. A flat that scores perfectly on all twelve would be unusual, and a flat that scores in the middle is simply a normal Indian flat.

What separates a home that feels good from one that feels heavy is rarely the number of findings. It is whether the two or three that genuinely matter have been attended to.

The Free Corrections Do Most of the Work

Look at the fixes listed for your findings and notice how many cost nothing: clearing the north-east, clearing the entrance, changing which way you sleep, moving storage from one side of the home to the other, replacing a dead bulb, clearing a balcony.

This is not a coincidence. Decluttering and placement are treated in the tradition as the base remedies, and they remain the ones residents report noticing most. Objects, symbols and purchased items come after those, if at all.

Any assessment whose corrections are mostly things you must buy is worth questioning on that basis alone — particularly where the person recommending them also sells them.

What a Score Cannot Do

It cannot take a compass reading at the centre of your property, which is what establishes where the directions actually fall. Most people are wrong about which corner is their north-east until they check properly with a compass, away from steel furniture and phones.

It cannot see your layout, so it cannot tell you that a particular corner is cut, that the centre is blocked by a structural pillar, or that two findings interact in your specific home.

It cannot weigh findings against each other for your household — which of the twelve matter given how you actually live, who sleeps where, and what you are able to change.

And it cannot tell you what to deliberately ignore, which is one of the more valuable parts of a real assessment. Some findings in some homes are genuinely not worth acting on, and being told that saves effort and worry.

Using This Before a Consultation

The most useful way to treat this tool is as preparation. Run through it honestly, note where you answered "not sure", and check those with a compass and a walk around your home before doing anything.

The "not sure" answers are often the most informative part of the result. Not knowing whether your south-west is heavy, or which corner is your north-east, is extremely common and it is the first thing worth establishing — because every other finding depends on getting the directions right.
