How a House Number Is Calculated

Add the digits of your own flat or house number and reduce to a single figure. Flat 402 gives 4+0+2 = 6. A trailing letter is traditionally added at its Chaldean value, so 12A gives 1+2 = 3 plus A as 1, making 4.

Use your own number rather than the building or block number — the tower is shared by many households and is not your unit, in the same way a building entrance is not your Vastu unit.

What Each Number Suggests

The character described is about the home rather than about you. A 6 is the number most associated with domestic comfort and family life, and it is generally an easy one to live in. A 4 suggests structure and steady building, which suits some households and feels demanding to others. A 7 suggests quiet and depth, good for study and less suited to a large social household. A 5 suggests movement and change, which fits people who travel and unsettles those who want stability.

None of these is good or bad. They describe a tendency, and whether it suits you depends on how you actually live.

The Part That Matters Most

Your house number is fixed by the builder and cannot be changed. That single fact should govern how much weight you give any result here.

If it came out harmonious, that is a small pleasant thing to know. If it came out unfriendly, the answer is not to move house. Moving over a door number is disproportionate by any measure, and anyone advising it — particularly anyone selling a remedy alongside the advice — has lost perspective.

Vastu Carries Far More Weight Here

This is worth stating plainly, because it is the genuinely useful redirection.

What actually shapes how a home feels is its Vastu: where the north-east falls and whether it is clear or full of storage, whether the south-west carries weight, which way people sleep, whether the entrance is clean and lit, whether there are leaks or damp left unattended.

Those factors carry considerably more weight than a number on a door, and unlike the number, almost all of them can be changed — most of them for free. A household worried about a house number and living with a north-east store room has the priority inverted.

What You Can Do

Nothing about the number itself, and that is fine. What you can do is everything else about the home.

Where everything else is not equal — and it rarely is — location, layout, light, ventilation, floor, neighbours, price and the Vastu of the actual flat all matter more. A number is the last thing to weigh, not the first.
